Permanent Outdoor Lighting in North Scottsdale, AZ
Architectural lighting built for the desert, not borrowed from somewhere cold
North Scottsdale is where permanent lighting is the main event, not an upsell. DC Ranch, Silverleaf, Grayhawk, Troon, and Desert Mountain are year-round outdoor living communities with dark-sky guidelines, strict HOAs, and a sun that destroys cheap hardware in a single summer. We install a low-profile architectural system once, rate it for UV and monsoon, and tune it to the community standard.
Why North Scottsdale homes go permanent first
In most of the country permanent lighting is something a homeowner graduates to after a few seasons of holiday installs. In North Scottsdale it is usually the starting point, and for good reasons. The outdoor season here is twelve months long. The houses are designed around evenings on the patio and the view from the drive. The HOAs in DC Ranch, Silverleaf, and Desert Mountain have real design guidelines about exterior lighting, and a tasteful, fixed architectural system is far easier to get right under those guidelines than a seasonal display that goes up and comes down. And the roof is not a place anyone wants to be in June, July, or August.
So the system we install is designed for how these homes are actually used: warm, low-glare accent light along the roofline and the entry every evening, dimmed for dark-sky courtesy, with holiday scenes saved for December and a party scene saved for the night you need it.
Built for UV and monsoon, which is what actually kills lighting here
Nothing freezes in North Scottsdale. What fails exterior lighting here is the sun and the storms. Months of direct UV turn cheap plastic housings chalky and brittle, fade lenses, and cook adhesives. Then the monsoon arrives with dust, wind, and sideways rain and finds every seam the sun opened. Lighting that was designed for a northern winter and shipped to the desert does not last.
- UV-stabilized channel and lens that do not yellow, chalk, or crack under years of Arizona sun
- Sealed, individually addressable LED nodes inside the channel, rated for sustained high heat on a west-facing fascia in August
- Weather-sealed power and data connections at every junction, because monsoon rain arrives horizontally
- Dust-tolerant design with no exposed strand, no hanging clip, and nothing for a haboob to lift
- Color-matched aluminum channel that reads as a trim line against stucco, stone, and dark fascia in daylight
HOA and dark-sky conscious by design
Most North Scottsdale communities have exterior lighting standards, and the ones nearest the McDowell Sonoran Preserve take dark-sky seriously. A permanent architectural system is a good fit for both because everything about it is controllable. We design the runs to the architecture rather than outlining every edge, keep the everyday scene to a warm, dimmed white, aim the light at the house rather than into the sky, and set schedules so it is off when the community expects it to be off. If your HOA wants to review the plan, we provide what they need to see. We would rather get it approved once than argue about it later.
During the holidays the same system runs a saved scene, in colors and patterns that fit the neighborhood, with no additional hardware going up and nothing to take down in January.
Designed for the drive, the entry, and the patio side
North Scottsdale homes tend to have three views that matter: the approach up the driveway, the entry courtyard, and the back of the house as seen from the patio and the pool with the mountains behind it. A roofline-only plan misses two of them. We walk all three at the design visit and decide which lines to light and which to leave dark. On a desert contemporary with deep overhangs and long horizontal fascia, a single clean run can do more than a fully outlined roof. On a Tuscan or territorial home with parapets and tower elements, the plan is different again.
From the walkthrough we cut the channel runs to length, set node spacing for even light with no hot spots, and program your first scenes before we leave: everyday warm white, a holiday scene, a party scene, and anything else you want saved. You get a short walkthrough of the app and schedules set to local sunset.
No holes in stucco, stone, or fascia
The channel mounts to the fascia or the underside of the overhang, never to the roof tile or the foam. On stucco and stone we avoid the finish entirely. Fastening is matched to the fascia material so there is no corrosion and no visible hardware, and the channel is color-matched so it disappears in daylight. If the system ever comes off, the house still looks like the house.
We also install seasonal holiday lighting for homeowners who want wrapped palms, garland on the entry, and a traditional display layered over the permanent roofline in December. Both are clip-mounted and never stapled or nailed.
What is included
- An on-site design walkthrough covering the drive, the entry, and the patio side
- Channel runs cut and matched to your rooflines, parapets, overhangs, and entry
- UV-rated, sealed, addressable LED nodes with app control and sunset scheduling
- Power placement planned around your existing exterior circuits
- Scene programming and an app walkthrough before the crew leaves
- Documentation for HOA review when your community requires it
- Support from a local Scottsdale crew, not a call center
Because the system is on every evening, it also does the quiet work: a lit entry at the end of a long dark drive, a house that looks occupied when you are at the summer place, and no extension cord across the courtyard.

Permanent Lighting FAQs for North Scottsdale
- That is what it is specified for. UV-stabilized channel and lens, sealed nodes rated for sustained heat on a west-facing fascia, and weather-sealed connections for monsoon season. Lighting built for northern winters and shipped to the desert is what fails here, and we do not install it.
- Most North Scottsdale HOAs approve well-designed permanent architectural lighting, and we design with their guidelines in mind: warm dimmed everyday scenes, light aimed at the house, and schedules that respect quiet hours. If your HOA wants to review the plan, we provide what they need.
- A slim aluminum channel along the fascia or under the overhang, color-matched to the trim. On most desert contemporary and Tuscan homes it reads as a trim line and is not noticeable from the drive.
- Yes. Holiday scenes are saved in the app and scheduled for December, in colors and patterns that fit the neighborhood. Nothing additional goes up and nothing comes down in January.
- No. The channel mounts to the fascia or the underside of the overhang, never the tile, foam, stucco, or stone. Fastening is matched to the fascia material and the channel is color-matched to hide it.
